Rooibos tea

One of our most popular herbs in our arsenal would have to be Rooibos or red tea. The herb is packed full of medicinal properties and can be found in Southern Africa, outside of the Cederberg Mountain Range. It’s a close cousin of Honeybush which can also be found in the same location. This is the only place in the world that these two herbs can be found. Other than cultivated by private companies.

This herb can be found in a green or red form. It’s oxidized the same way that you would a true tea. Rooibos is considered a tisane, so it is not a true leafed tea. The difference in flavors are lemon and a slight astringent not compared to the red which imparts a smooth, woodsy note. Like green tea and black, green rooibos is higher in antioxidants than the well renowned red. Both varieties of rooibos are also caffeine free.

Rooibos tea has been known to cure headaches, insomnia, hypertension and allergies. Rooibos is also known to aid in digestions and therefore aids in the prevention in colic whenever dealing with infants.

Rooibos tea has no oxalic acid therefore it can be consumed by individuals that suffer from kidney stones. Very high in minerals, as well as antioxidants rooibos tea is also found to contain extremely potent and versatile phenolic compounds.

Some of the health benefits of rooibos include lowering blood pressure. The herb improves heart and bone health. Controls diabetes and treats allergies. A real powerhouse of an herb. We also have plenty of flavors in house, so come and give our rooibos selection a try.

See you at the shop.
