Moringa Herb

The Moringa tree is closely related to the papaya family, and is native to the sub-Himalayan mountain region in India and has been found in the southwest and northeast Africa, southwest Asia, Madagascar and the Philippines. The herb can also be found in the United States, in areas such as California, Arizona, Hawaii and Florida. The herb is drought tolerant and thrives in semi-arid, tropical, and subtropical climates.

Moringa has been used for thousands of years for everything from food, building materials as well as having a panacea of medicinal properties. The roots, stems, leaves, seed pods, resin and flowers are all considered to be healing herbs in Ayurvedic medicine. Therefore, it is used extensively to support the gut and aid in digestion. It also supports the spleen and eye health. Moringa has a bitter and pungent taste, which results in a heating sensation that effect the doshas of Kapha and Vata.

When harvesting, every part of the tree is used. The tree is used for erosion control and the building materials. The seed are high in oils and the remaining bulk are used for clarifying water. Roots are used as a condiment for their horseradish flavor. Leaves can be dried and powdered to be used in sauces and baby formula, which is why it can also be found in areas that suffer from malnutrition. With all of its uses, no wonder they call this ‘The Divine Tree’.
