Milk and Honey, and Sleep

Have you ever had one of those nights that you knew you had to get a good night’s sleep due to a demanding next day? You try and try to convince your brain to turn off but it just does not listen. Sleep evades you at 9pm, 10 pm, 11pm, etc. Eventually you have a choice, continue tossing and turning or raid the medicine cabinet for some help.
I recently had one of those nights. Unfortunately, as a senior female, I seem to be having many nights like that so when I looked for my bottle of Melatonin, I remembered taking the last one several weeks ago. I decided on a hot cup of Rip Van Winkle tea that I order online from Tin Roof Teas. To my chagrin, I had brewed the last pot for my granddaughter when she stayed with me before Christmas. It has been a tradition since she was young that after her shower we have a tea party with “Sleepy Time Tea.” In twenty minutes, she is asleep. Anyway, I had no tea. All was not lost. I have always heard people talk about warm milk but unfortunately, I do not like milk. I do keep a small container for my spouse, so I checked it to be sure it was drinkable but what to do with the taste. Then I remembered something I read online one day about milk and honey. Ah-ha! The solution…on my last order of tea, I had ordered a jar of Goldenrod honey for my allergies. I dug it out and spooned a half teaspoon into a cup of milk and heated it in the microwave. The taste was great; Goldenrod honey is very buttery and rich. By the time, I read a chapter in a book and finished the cup, I was asleep.
So next time you have a sleep issue, try a little honey and milk. It may be a solution to your problem.
