Linden: An Herb Overlooked

Linden Tea

At Tin Roof Teas, we have a lot of individuals that are looking for sleep aids, and herbs that assist in the relief of anxiety. Of course, we have Kava Kava and Valerian Root, but one herb that flies under the radar is Linden. It could be that Linden is lost in our ever-expanding collection of herbs, so I am going to highlight it for June’s newsletter.

Linden has quite an array of health benefits including improvement of the immune system, cancer prevention, body detoxification, anxiety, lowering blood pressure, and fighting inflammation.

Linden Blossom tea is made up of the flowers and leaves of the plant. Brewed for 10 minutes using boiling water this potent concoction can be quite powerful when taking 2-3 cups a day. The high concentration of phytonutrients, flavonoids, and diaphoretic substances are what makes Linden a real powerhouse. On a little side note, Linden honey is very popular in Europe, as well as in the US. The honey can also be found under the name basswood or lime honey. If you enjoy honey in your tea, you can have a one/two punch added to your Linden tea.

One of the top two health benefits for consuming Linden tea would have to be anxiety and cold and flu reduction.

Treatment for anxiety would be one of the most frequent uses, as well as mental stress. Suffering from mood swings or chronic stress, then Linden is the herb for you. It has a minor effect on your hormone levels, inducing the mind and body to relax.

Linden stimulates sweating, which aids in breaking a fever. When dealing with the symptoms of cold and flu, Linden aids in swollen membranes and respiratory tracts due to inflammation. By reducing inflammation, you reduce coughing and irritation. Linden also eliminates congestion and aids in boosting the immunity.

A lot of other medicinal benefits to cover, but I’ll leave that one up to you.

See you at the shop.
