Dandelion Tea Saved My Dog
My 4-legged furry friend CD is almost 15 years old. He experienced a severe illness in January and he has been declining ever since the event. The reason I feel he survived is another story altogether so I am sticking to recent events. CD has been experiencing spasm and jerks during sleep times and he walks stiffed-legged with some difficulty. Vets that I use suggested different medications and the medicine did help but he still struggled. He quit playing and he was not eating well; he slept a lot so I decided to take him to one of his vets to do a series of acupuncture sessions to see if they would benefit him. While he was receiving the first one, the vet was talking about senior dogs lacking Vitamin C and Potassium. He has been taking Denamarin for months with no significant liver improvement so her comments registered. I decided to try something different.
Let me say up front…my dogs have been raised as holistically as I can manage which is also another story but I buy teas and herbs for my family from Tin Roof Teas and the consultants are so knowledgeable that I called the manager to ask for advice. He knew from my previous orders that I had a pack of Dandelion Tea which has the stem and roots so it is a pretty powerful detox herb as well as a good source of Vitamin C. He suggested that I brew a strong solution of the herb and add a small amount to his drinking water. I add about ½ cups to a bowl every time I fill it up. I have two dogs but I decided both would benefit. Within 24 hours, I was in shock. I thought the vet would never believe me so I took a picture of him lifting his leg to urinate which he hasn’t done in months and months. By the time he visited her the next week, CD’s spasm and jerks had stopped, he was sleeping well, off all pain meds, eating well, and wanting to chase his ball and play. When the vet walked in, he was standing on his hind legs looking out the window to bark at a dog passing by the window. She couldn’t believe it either and she commented that no way could one acupuncture session do that. I am so happy with the results and he is also. Who would have thought a simple Dandelion tea would work so well.
I am not telling anyone to stop medicine prescribed by their vet but there are many, many books published that will support the benefit of herbs for dogs. As a pet owner, you need to do your own research and find a vet who will work with you to do what is best for your pet.
