Genmaicha (Organic): A Hearty, Warming Japanese Tradition
Genmaicha, sometimes called “popcorn tea,” is a unique green tea brewed from tea leaves blended together with toasted rice. Japanese households mixed toasted rice with tea was as a way to extend their tea supply until the following spring. The tea quickly became a favorite across Japan due to its delicate sweetness and hearty flavor.
Our version of this tea uses high-quality Bancha and premium Japanese short-grain rice. The balanced marriage of green tea and rice make this tea an ideal beverage for a macrobiotic diet. It’s flavorful, refreshing, and has a subtle sweetness. Japanese households typically enjoy this tea in the afternoon.

I have loved Genmaicha since my first sip many years ago. The toasted rice gives the tea a scrumptious body and aroma. This blend is perfectly balanced and will please any green tea drinker (pro and amateur alike); its being organic is an added bonus. And what could be more fun than the surprise of tiny popcorn kernels and toasted rice in your tea!

One of my fave teas purchased. It literally smells like rice krispies treats.
