Our top quality Fukamushi-Sencha Maki is from Makinohara, Shizuoka. It is made of very young leaves that naturally contain a high level of theanin (amino acid).

    I have a bit of a story with this tea.

    Years ago I was getting a great Japanese sencha import that was probably my favorite tea. It was smooth, fresh, and balanced. However, one day my source vanished and has never returned. I moved on to other teas, but have always wanted to find that stuff again. Recently, I got a batch of sencha from a different dealer that was very expensive and very close to that old tea I liked, but not exactly–the balance was way off, though it was otherwise pretty good. On a whim, I brought it in to TRT and they recommended the Fukamushi as a similar tea. I picked up both the basic stuff and this higher grade Maki.

    The basic stuff was even better than the expensive stuff I already had–better balance, better overall flavor and was very close to the old tea I was drinking, almost the same thing. However, the Maki is even better than that and I think even better than the old tea I was drinking. This is some of the best Japanese style green tea you’ll find anywhere. Better than stuff that costs twice the price, in my opinion. Highly recommended.

    Be careful with your brewing though. It can take multiple steepings, but it’s quite sensitive to temperature and time.
