Organic dark roast yaupon tea (Ilex vomitoria) is a smooth and delicious brew that is native to the Southern United States. Roasted to perfection, this tasty tea has a smooth and natural sweetness. This bushy holly plant is in the same family as yerba mate and guayusa. Hardy and drought resistant, it is the only caffeinated plant native to North America and grows wild in the Southern United States, stretching from Texas to North Carolina.
Yaupon was used for thousands of years by Indigenous, and this tea has recently reemerged and become widely available. Compared to more familiar teas brewed with Camellia sinensis leaves, Yaupon contains little to no tannins, meaning it is difficult to oversteep and does not become bitter easily

- A pleasant aroma that is reminiscent of genmaicha with a black tea twist. The flavor is mild and smooth, with a slight tannic trace nicely emphasized by the roasted notes. Exceptional served both hot and cold with a mild natural sweetness.
- Low-caffeine

Great low-caffeine herbal. I picked up a little each of nut, grain, umami and baking spice (cinnamon?) or perhaps that spice blend you get in a mulled wine. So there is some sweetness to it but not a lot. Not getting a lot of tannins, which is fine, so maybe there is this black tea note in it but you have to look for it. Brewed it the full 5 minutes with boiling water and, like the official description above states, it wasn’t bitter at all. I may try brewing a full 10 minutes just to experiment. Definitely recommend.
